REACT SPÄTI
Nike’s Späti React campaign was launched ahead of the 2019 Berlin Half Marathon.
I developed a concept based around a collaboration with local running crew the Berlin Braves, and rather than doing a conventional marathon-themed shoot, I turned the lens on the local “Späti” — the word used for a neighbourhood convenience shop in Berlin and other parts of former Eastern Germany.
Spätis are often a place for locals to meet for a quick beer, and during race season they’re a popular place for runners to go for a celebratory beer.
I crafted a concept following three protagonists on a run through the streets of Kreuzberg, ending at a Späti to rejoice and rejuvenate.
I used a variety of shots and visuals, as well as a mix of day and night settings, to introduce a sense of everyday joy into what is normally very serious, performance-focussed imagery.
